A New Era for Can-Am
Can-Am CEO Jose Boisjoli recently confirmed the company’s strategy to establish a strong foothold in the electric motorcycle sector. “We want to expand our network in Europe. This is our focus for next year, to develop that market,” Boisjoli told *Motorcycle News (MCN)*. The brand plans to sign up around 100 dealers to sell its electric motorcycles, with ambitions to double that number to 200. Approximately 15 of these dealers will be located in the UK, signaling a significant commitment to the British market.
The company’s return to two-wheeled motorcycles comes with the launch of two new models: the £15,399 Origin adventure bike and the £14,899 Pulse naked roadster. Both bikes will be available in two versions: a 125cc equivalent for A1 licence holders and a more powerful 47bhp option for A2 licence riders.
Going All-In on Electric
Can-Am’s decision to focus exclusively on electric powertrains marks a strategic shift for the brand. “There are no big players yet established in the two-wheeled EV sector,” Boisjoli explained. “We’ve made a commitment towards electrifying our line-up and felt that, in order to re-enter the motorcycle market, the best way was to go electric first.”
The CEO expressed confidence in the growing demand for electric motorcycles, despite a temporary plateau in the automotive industry. “I think there’s a lot of potential for electric bikes, and the appetite is strong. It’s just a question of time until demand increases again,” he said.
Future Plans and Potential Models
While Can-Am is currently focused on its two-bike electric lineup, Boisjoli hinted at the possibility of expanding the range in the future. Small-capacity scooters and off-road models could be on the horizon, provided the initial offerings prove successful. “Right now, we’re just focused on two-wheeled electric motorcycles. The electric market is where we feel we can be competitive,” he added.
A Competitive Edge in the EV Market
Can-Am’s entry into the electric motorcycle market comes at a time when the industry is still in its infancy, with few established players dominating the space. By leveraging its reputation for innovation and performance, the brand aims to carve out a significant share of the market.
With its ambitious expansion plans and commitment to electric mobility, Can-Am is poised to make a lasting impact on the motorcycle industry. For UK riders, the arrival of the Origin and Pulse models, along with a growing network of dealers, offers an exciting glimpse into the future of electric motorcycling.
Stay tuned for more updates as Can-Am continues to electrify the two-wheeled world.
